Be believe that focusing on sustainability is not about performing a single action, but about keeping continuously up-to-date and concentrating on innovation. While our highly durable crates are made from 100% recycled polypropylene (PP), we closely follow all new material applications and promising production techniques to further improve our mechanical performance and reduce our environmental impact.
Sustainability is
not a single action but a
continuous proces
Respecting the rules of today
while anticipating the rules
of tomorrow.
This attention is reflected in the certifications obtained by Plastica Sud, not only complying with the law but also anticipating new rules and regulations. This is the case with the voluntary Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which takes into account the environmental impact of every phase of the supply chain involved in the production of our crates, destined mainly for the fruit and vegetable market.

EPDs are based on the principles of the ISO standard for type III environmental declarations (ISO 14025), which grant them widespread international acceptance. Through its EPD, Plastica Sud can identify, control, monitor and evaluate the environmental performance of its products from a life-cycle perspective and also communicate the results to all its stakeholders. The EPD and the underlying life-cycle assessment (LCA) can be used to measure impact and improve the efficiency of processes and materials used. Through its EPD, Plastica Sud can report the continuous environmental improvement of its products and services over time, communicating relevant environmental information along the product supply chain. The LCA method used for EPDs as part of the International EPD System also makes it possible to quantify the benefits of using recycled materials or those deriving from products that can be re-used, increasingly directing business design choices towards packaging that forms part of a circular economy.
Energy production
largely
from renewable sources.
As a result of the photovoltaic power system installed in 2014, a significant share of the industrial energy needs of Plastica Sud comes from renewable sources.
In 2022, the system produced 565 kWh of clean energy, of which 84.66% for self-consumption, with a Performance Ratio (PR) of 78.47%. This system, together with other energy efficiency interventions such as the installation of state-of-the-art presses and auxiliary systems, and re-lamping with LED-based lighting fixtures featuring twilight and motion sensors, reflects Plastica Sud’s concrete commitment to sustainable energy production to the benefit of the planet.
Circular economy:
the business model
of the future.
The circular economy, more than any other, is a business model of the future rooted in the past. At the heart of this model is the idea that “waste” does not exist, and that every production process should enable the total recovery of the resources it uses. Plastica Sud subscribes to this model, and its membership in CONIP – Italy’s National Plastic Packaging Consortium – underscores its commitment to crates produced exclusively with recycled raw materials supplied by members of the consortium according to the principles of curbed energy expenditure, versatility of use, and ease of re-use.
